Manderley

"Last night, I dreamt I went to Manderley again. It seemed to me I stood by the iron gate leading to the drive, and for a while I could not enter for the way was barred to me. Then, like all dreamers, I was possessed of a sudden with supernatural powers and passed like a spirit through the barrier before me. The drive wound away in front of me, twisting and turning as it had always done. But as I advanced, I was aware that a change had come upon it. Nature had come into her own again, and little by little had encroached upon the drive with long tenacious fingers, on and on while the poor thread that had once been our drive. And finally, there was Manderley - Manderley - secretive and silent. Time could not mar the perfect symmetry of those walls. Moonlight can play odd tricks upon the fancy, and suddenly it seemed to me that light came from the windows. And then a cloud came upon the moon and hovered an instant like a dark hand before a face. The illusion went with it. I looked upon a desolate shell, with no whisper of the past about its staring walls. We can never go back to Manderley again. That much is certain." (shortened version)

So, this week I read Rebecca for my lit. class. Daphne du Maurier knew how to write. It took me a while to get into it because I new the story, but when I got to the night of the Manderley ball....Ah! I flew through it. :) I didn't really realize how amazingly creepy it was.

"She was in the house still as Mrs. Danvers said, she was in that room in the west wing, she was in the library, in the morning-room, in the gallery above the hall. And in the garden, and in the woods, and down in the stone cottage on the beach. her footsteps sounded in the corridors, her scent lingered on the stairs. The servants obeyed her orders still, the food we ate was the food she liked. Her clothes were in the wardrobes in her room, her brushes were on the table, her shoes beneath the chair, her nightdress on the bed. Rebecca was still mistress of Manderley. Rebecca was still Mrs. de Winter,"

Really. Creepy. This begins my favorite part of the story. All seems lost, then the truth is revealed and Mrs. de Winter finally stands up to Mrs. Danvers. "I am Mrs. de Winter now, you know." haha! Triumph. :)

Anyway, I wish Manderley was a real place. It sounds so beautiful. A gorgeous mansion surrounded by wild forests and flowers. Not to mention, a breathtaking view of the ocean, and a beach house. :)

It was quite an enjoyable assignment. I would definitely suggest reading it!

So, this week has been great. Its been pretty quiet around here and school is winding down. yay. Wednesday night I went to the Blend with Ellie, Wendi, Brooke, and Kristen. It was like old times, except Ellie was talking about Troy. :)

And I'm still frantically looking for a job (or not so frantically ;) hehe)

That's about it...

In Christ
