I work near a few busy intersections in Peoria. It is quite common for one of my coworkers to hear screeching tires through their open widows. The other day, we saw a fire truck fly down a one way right outside our building so we decided to investigate.
Our view when we stepped outside:
We built up some courage and decided to join the locals and take a closer look.
This is what we saw:
This is a block off of an interstate Exit. What we figured out was that the car had come flying off of the interstate, hit the curb, lost control, and rolled half a block before it hit this tree.
After a while we learned the driver was ok, but she was being handcuffed and taken to an East Peoria police car. It turns out it was probably the end of a high speed chase across the bridge.
My job description seems to be ever changing and expanding. The other day, I helped my coworker move two of her clients out of their apartments. Actually, the clients weren't there due to the fact that they are in prison/jail and could be for some time.
The apartments were complete squalor. I have never seen such dirty places in my life. Half drunk bottles of water, alcohol, and pop, ash trays, cigarettes, clothes, underwear, wrappers, broken plates, shoes, and other nasty things were everywhere. One of the apartments had their power shut off on them and the refrigerator had rotting food in it. We had other clients helping us, which was interesting, because at one point we had to bar them from a room while we cleaned up drug paraphernalia. The first apartment was so bad, we just left, the landlord will just have to hire a cleaning company.
At the second apartment we discovered more of the same. The client had converted a closet into a trashcan and used a cardboard box to block the view. Under the kitchen sink we found that he had never washed dishes. They were underneath, crusted in food, sticky, and molding. He had used his bathroom sink as an ash tray and it was completely clogged. We had the joy of unclogging it. And his toilet looked like he had had some bowel issues. I doused it in toilet bowl cleaner, flushed, closed the lid, and ran.
Our most interesting discovery of the day was this:
Little white capsules, obviously hand packed with white powder.
We quickly put them in the water bottle. We didn't want any of the clients sneaking a few. My coworkers and I drove it to the police station and dropped it in their drug drop box. I'll never know what it was, but that's the first time I've ever held an illegal drug.
Other than that, work has been status quo. Clients beating each other up, getting arrested, going on run, stealing from each other, you know, just normal stuff. :)
