Wyss Vacation '15

It happens every year, the post-vacation blues.

The Wyss family went to Lake Hamlin this year.   Lake Hamlin is only a few miles from Lake Michigan. So we were able to go boating, and have an awesome beach.

We had incredible weather all week long.  It was cool in the mornings and evenings but warm enough during the day to spend plenty of time in the sun.  The cool nights were much needed since our resort was pretty rustic and didn't have air conditioning.

Nathan and I shared a cabin with Aaron and Kendra.  The inside:

My roomie for the week :) I think we got along quite well.
I didn't hear any of his crying.

The lodge, an old restaurant, had plenty of room for large meals and evening games.

The first night we got there we went out to the dunes and the beach.

climbing the dunes

Cecily ran up and down this dune at least 3 times.

On Sunday,  while killing some time,  a few of us went to walmart for a few things and stopped at what would become the ice cream place of the week.  House of Flavors was wonderful.  They make their own waffle cones right in front of you.

When the boat arrived, Matt took a few of us out for a tour of the lake.

we saw a beautiful sunset

The rest of the week was filled with beach going, hiking, swimming, boating, wake boarding, tubing, eating, watching movies, playing games, rousing conversation, and general relaxation.  :)

A group of us went on a hike to a light house.
The landscape through the dunes was so odd and yet beautiful

We climbed up to the top to look around.

Meals were wonderful, as usual.  My mom served the traditional haystacks.

:)

Matt brought ingredients for pina coladas and coco locos, minus the alcohol of course.

Some of the men spent their mornings and evenings fishing.  They didn't catch much though.

We took an afternoon to tube down a river.

The boat was out of order in the beginning of the week so it was run pretty much non-stop to make up for it.
I made it up wake boarding :)

Jenny and Abby took a jet ski ride.

Friday, we rented a pontoon boat for grandpa, grandma, and Pearl.

Dad drove them around.

Emmy fell asleep

We took another ice cream run

In the afternoon,  we took the pontoon to the end of the lake to the dunes.

We anchored the pontoon so we could swim and climb the dunes.

Friday evening, the pack up began.

We left Saturday morning and made it home that afternoon.

Walking back into the house is so bittersweet.  It's clean, the bed is soft, and I can wear clean clothes,  but vacation is gone.  There is a moment on vacation, when the week is suddenly coming to an end, (waxing all philosophical) I begin to realize that the wonderful time and experiences, are soon to be nothing but memories.  Which is sad.

Sigh.  I love vacation.

Catching up! Enjoyed the post and pictures. It was great having you on vacation. Nathan and you did a great job with the marshmallow contest too. You are a great cotton candy maker and thanks to Nathan for the gift that we all can share! And the yummy cold drinks. I appreciate your love and interest in all--one of your gifts from God.
