The Great Vacation

Just a bit over due....
Last week was the 25th annual Wyss Family Vacation. Ever since 1987 my grandparents have taken the family for a week vacation, complete with relaxing, sleeping, eating, and hanging out in the water.

This year, we went to Kentucky Lake. It was extremely hot and humid all week long so, we spent our time in the lake boating, lounging on rafts, or inside in the air conditioning. I stayed pretty inactive. It was quite lovely.

The girls got an amazing cabin all to ourselves. It was big and new and had two bathrooms with large showers. :) The downside (and the reason we got it) was it didn't have much privacy.

 I love Wyss vacation.

If you get up early you can catch grandma and pearl discussing whether the eggs were too dry, if there would be enough pancakes, and how they wish they had more blueberries. Then, you can watch all the adults gather around drinking their coffee, and listen to randy lecture on the state of our health care...,  or grandpa talk about the old days while grandma is still wondering if  bob has made it down to breakfast yet...
And then if you make it to the beach in time to grab the last raft you can join the floating aunt club and listen to them plan a wedding, a wedding shower and a baby shower.  You might catch the plot of a good book, or hear about so-and-so's cousin's best friend that isn't doing so well. If you're out of the water by three you might be able to catch a ride to the mall with the group that was planning on leaving before lunch.
Then you hurry up and wait to go wake boarding and tubing. Its always a battle to get the boat before someone else.
You don't really have to be anywhere but, you do have to get in from the beach and shower in time for a 5:30 supper that won't start until 6:00. Supper done, you make your way to the volleyball court to play a sweltering hot game before the boys may or may not attack you with water balloons they filled. :)
After you cool down, you crowd around a laptop and watch a good old Jane Austen until 1am....

cliffy and kray tubing. cliff did really good! :)

Sunday, we had church in the main cabin.
